New for 1999: Chevrolet adds a host of improvements to its Venture minivan for 1999. Among
  the highlights are a new LT package, a number of new colors, and an increase of five
  horsepower over last year's model. 

  History: The Venture is a far cry from the original Chevy minivan. Chevrolet's first   front-wheel-drive minivan was the Lumina APV. It proved to be small, underpowered and too  radically styled for most minivan buyers. It posed little threat to Chrysler's dominance.  However, in 1997 Chevrolet introduced the all-new Venture after extensive research into the  needs of current minivan owners. The resulting vehicle places the Venture squarely in the  current mainstream of minivan design. Venture is available in regular- and extended-wheelbase  trims, and a sliding passenger door on the driver's side is available. Venture's windshield  features a unique metallic coating that not only helps keep the interior cool, but serves as the  radio antenna as well. 

  Trim Details: The 1999 Chevrolet Venture is available in three trims: Regular 3-doorr, Regular
  4-door and Extended 4-door. Safety equipment includes dual front and side airbags, an
  anti-lock brake system (ABS), daytime running lights and an optional traction control system.
  Power comes from a 3.4-liter 185-horsepower V6 engine teamed with a 4-speed automatic
  transmission. Standard features include air conditioning, multiple cupholders, intermittent
  wipers, a tilt steering wheel, an integrated pollen filter, and an AM/FM stereo. An optional LS
  package adds cruise control, power windows, an upgraded stereo system with cassette,
  remote keyless entry and custom cloth seating. The new LT package adds a security system,
  power front seats, leather trim, a CD player and rear seat audio controls. Also available are a
  power passenger sliding door, self-sealing tires, and GM's OnStar mobile communications
  system.
