   New for 1999: Chevrolet
makes only a few changes to the Prizm for 1999, mainly adding
   some new colors.
   History: Introduced as
the Geo Prizm in 1989, the Prizm has fallen under the  Chevrolet
nameplate since 1998 when the Geo brand was discontinued. The Prizm also
underwent a  complete redesign last year, resulting in a sedan that
is not only larger, lighter and more  powerful than its predecessor,
but also safer. A new body and chassis with improved  impact-absorbing
crumple zones combines with optional side-impact airbags to offer
compact-car buyers a higher level of safety. The Prizm is built by New
United Motor  Manufacturing Inc., a General Motors/Toyota joint venture
in Fremont, California, and is the  mechanical twin of the Toyota
Corolla. Nearly three-quarters of Prizm buyers are women, and  the
automaker says the car's price and dependability are the top reasons buyers
choose  Chevrolet Prizm.
   Trim Details: The 1999
Chevrolet Prizm is available in two trims: Prizm (base) and LSi.
   Safety features include dual
airbags, optional side airbags, daytime running lights, child safety
   locks and an available anti-lock
brake system (ABS). A 1.8-liter 4-cylinder engine that
   produces 120 horsepower powers
all Prizms. Standard equipment includes intermittent
   wipers, body-color bumpers,
tinted glass, power steering and all-season tires. The LSi
   upgrades with air conditioning,
power door locks, a split-folding rear seat, cruise control and
   an AM/FM stereo cassette. A
tilt steering wheel, CD player, power sunroof and alloy wheels
are optional on all Prizms. |
