   What's New: The 1999
model year brings a sporty new package for the Chevrolet S10
   Pickup, aptly named the Xtreme.
With added ground effects and a lowered suspension,
   Chevrolet is hoping to appeal
to customers who had planned on customizing their new pickup
   after purchase.
   History: Introduced in
1982 as one of the first compact pickup trucks from a domestic
   manufacturer, the current S10
Pickup is only the second generation of this popular vehicle,
   which was redesigned in 1994.
A third door on extended-cab modelsóproviding direct access
   to the cab's rear seating/cargo
areaóbecame available in 1996. Last year, S10's front and rear
ends were restyled, and a passenger
airbag with a passenger-side deactivation switch was
   added.    Model
years: 1988-93, 94-98
   Trim Details: The 1999
Chevrolet S10 Pickup is available in ten trims: Short Bed base and
LS; Long Bed base and LS; and
LS Extended Cab each with either 2WD or 4WD. Safety
   features include dual airbags,
an anti-lock brake system (ABS) and daytime running lights. A
   2.2-liter 4-cylinder engine
powers S10s with 2WD, while 4WD trims get a 180-horsepower V6.
   Standard equipment includes
tinted glass, intermittent wipers, a rear step-bumper, double-wall
   bed construction, a removable
tailgate, and a theft-deterrent system. The LS trims feature
   cloth interior trim, a split-bench
seat and dual 12-volt power outlets. Extended Cabs offer the
option of an Easy Access System,
which is a third door allowing better access to the rear
   passenger area. Optional equipment
includes an automatic transmission, air conditioning and
   stereo upgrades. |
